I spent all winter testing and playing around a lot with different ingredients, formulas and packaging types for W Y L D / M A R E, and I’m super excited to release the products created so far because they feel great on my skin. I’ve been using these exact products in their current formulas for a few weeks now, and already they’re really making a difference! My skin feels softer, more hydrated and my wrinkles are way less defined.
I’m even more excited for you to try these. Here are my Maker notes, from the very first release. Thank you so much for being part of the first ever Skin Club!
Love,
Maia
Spring batch No. 01
(Feb/Mar/24)
Ultra hydrating lip wax
Real anti-aging results are produced from ultra hydration, and studies show that hyaluronic acid is a very effective ingredient to that effect. It’s a gooey, slippery substance found in your eyes, joints and skin and it’s a humectant which means it absorbs and retains moisture. You can find powdered hyaluronic acid, made from a bacteria fermentation process, extracted, purified and dehydrated into powder. There are also several different molecular weights of hyaluronic acid available, which target different layers of the skin, so I thought why not combine all molecular weighted formulas and target all layers of the skin! Then I added collagen amino acids to really boost the anti-aging results with more elasticity in the skin, and rosehip extract powder for extreme Vitamin C and all the gifts of rose. It’s all swirled and smoothed into a lip wax using organic beeswax and shea butter, with light bright citrus notes from grapefruit essential oil.
I am seriously seeing these wrinkles around my lips fill in, and my lips are almost always smooth, even through the final weeks of winter!
How to use: I smudge on a layer of lip wax first thing in the morning when my lips are super dry and flaking. And I really smudge, I apply it all around the lips where I have 40-year old wrinkles. Use again at night, or as needed for dry, cracked lips. Avoid sun exposure after applying, due to the citrus essential oils.
Ingredients list: african shea butter, organic beeswax, rosehips, hyaluronic acid, aloe vera, vitamin E, lavender and calendula infused extra virgin olive oil, cocoa butter, collagen amino acids, essential oil of grapefruit
Packaging: Recycled cardboard. 100% compostable.
Tulsi + Rosehip botanical toner
Tulsi basil is a natural antiseptic and antibacterial herbal remedy, and in the toner we incorporate tulsi using an alcohol extraction tincture in (non-GMO) potato vodka. Sometimes toners made with alcohol can be drying, yet tulsi offers hydrating and soothing properties, so this toner leaves your skin feeling soft and nourished, not dry.
Rosehips have the highest content of vitamin C among fruits and vegetables (30x more than oranges), and they contain vitamins A, B1, B2, B6, D, E and K that are critical to our overall health and vitality. Rosehips are also hydrating and boost collagen formation in the skin.
Both Tulsi and Rosehip contain high levels of antioxidants and Vitamin C, which activate hydration in the skin and neutralize free radicals in the bloodstream that cause aging spots and damage to the skin.
On an emotional level, Holy basil Tulsi and Rosehip are major in the plant kingdom, you might say king and queen, offering support for grief and loss,
How to use: Shake gently. Spritz on cleansed skin, just before applying serum. This makes the skin already moist, so when you apply the serum, it doesn’t get absorbed by the superficial outer layer of the skin and can penetrate into the deeper layers.
Ingredients list: TrueSpring crystalline water, tulsi basil tincture (non-GMO potato vodka extract), rosehips
Packaging: Glass bottle with spray top. Reusable.
F’n serious Ferox serum
Ever heard of aloe ferox bitters? Me neither, until we learned it was good for the gut and started using it in smoothies and coffees a few years back. Aloe ferox bitters are made from the sap that drains from a young aloe plant when harvested, dried, then crushed into powder. Turns out aloe ferox contains almost double the amino acids as aloe vera, and amino acids are the building blocks of collagen proteins, new cellular growth and skin elasticity.
Ever heard of agar agar? Me neither, until I found out it's used as a vegan thickening agent, and I started to use it in soups and baking. Agar Agar powder is a type of seaweed algae plant and is a humectant, which means it helps retain moisture in the skin while delivering that gooey, smooth feel of a serum that is normally activated by glycerin typically derived from animals but we have achieved with plants.
These two radical ingredients are combined with our triple-weighted hyaluronic acid formula for ultra hydration and anti-aging effects, and then the serum is softened with St. Joan’s Wort infused extra virgin olive oil and enhanced with an essential oil blend designed for cellular regeneration.
Aloe vera and glycerin make a good serum, aloe ferox bitters and agar agar combined with plant essence and intelligence, make this a f’n serious anti-aging serum.
How to use: Shake well. Apply serum generously over face and neck, follow with moisturizer, and prep skin first with toner.
Ingredients list: TrueSpring crystalline water, agar agar, hyaluronic acid, aloe vera, aloe ferox bitters, St. Joan’s wort infused extra virgin olive oil, essential oil blend of frankincense / wild orange peel / litsea fruit / thyme leaf / clove bud / summer savory plant / niaouli leaf / lemongrass leaf
Packaging: Glass bottle with dropper top. Reusable.
A note on Shelf Life:
I really have no idea…. Please keep me posted on any product feedback!
A note on Packaging:
I am striving towards 100% plastic free packaging for both the products and the mailing. I upcycled food bags for this month’s skin club deliveries, but I found an amazing solution I am thrilled to try. Grown Bio is a company based in the Netherlands, and they have a mushroom technology where you can grow your own protective packaging that I’ll be starting this spring!
“Mycelium is a regenerative resource the world is only recently getting to know. Apart from its incredible role in nature, mycelium grows fast and has a hard surface thanks to a material called chitin which makes it suitable for packaging.”
